When spring arrives, so does the washing of your windows! Do you know how to properly maintain your windows so that they work perfectly for many years?

Here are our Solutions Fenêtres’ TIPS for the maintenance of your windows:

1. Clean the window frames and weatherstripping with a VERY GENTLE SOAP!

Beware of products containing ammonia or strong disinfectants that could damage your windows.

Use a sponge, mild car soap or dishwashing liquid diluted in warm water and rinse your window frames with clear water. This way, you will keep your window frames supple and beautiful.

PVC and aluminum windows are very resistant, but certain chemical products could alter their properties and thus damage their shine.

2. Wash your WINDOWS with your GRANDMA‘s recipe

Obviously, when it comes to window maintenance, the first thing you want to do is wash your windows. You will find a multitude of products in the big box stores to help you wash them, but these chemical products are often not very ecological and are not very effective.

The next time you wash your windows, try this simple recipe from your grandmother:

1. Mix 250 ml of white vinegar with 1 liter of water in a spray bottle
2. Spray your windows and wipe them with a soft cloth.

It is an ecological recipe that leaves no trace!

3. After CLEANING, remember to LUBRICATE your window hardware.

Lubricating your window hardware is the most overlooked maintenance step, but is by far the most important!

After cleaning, LUBRICATE all moving hardware:

• Hinges
• Slide rails
• Opening operators
• Locks

Use silicone-based lubricants designed for this purpose that you can find in big-box stores.

It is important to lubricate the hardware of your windows in order to maintain the flexibility and maneuverability of their mechanism for many years.

4. Maintaining your windows: The KEY to protecting your INVESTMENT

We recommend that you maintain your windows at least once a year to protect your investment. In addition, the maintenance of your windows will allow you to detect more easily a breakage, an anomaly or a problem of functioning related to the mechanisms.
